ARC: Family Co-Op Framework
As a full-time working parent, I do not have the time or energy to police my child’s device usage nor sit through hours of studying and homework focus. I needed a tool that can manage this problem for me.
google gemini flash, ai studio, app scripts, slides
I could just lock the devices with a password, but that doesn’t foster trust-building and independence.
My 12yo has no problem doing morning and bedtime tasks, i.e., I don’t get pushback when I remind him. The problem was the lack of an auto trigger (instead of me) hence the tasks don’t evolve into habits, then routine.
routines & goalsHe has a number of interests and is driven enough to self-start. What was missing was a holistic view of his day and time management—structure.
After writing the PRD and publishing the initial build, I wanted to validate the solution.
I asked for my 12yo to go through the app and implemented Think-Aloud Protocol (TAP). For this persona, I needed to ask the why’s beyond the what’s. He was ruthless.
I gave him this scenario:
soft launch beta testing“You wake up on a Sunday, like today, wanting to play online with friends and animate. But you know you need to work for it.”
Confusion. Frustration. Dislike. In short? Yikes.
result“I don’t think I will use this when I have large tasks, like exam or competition, because it looks very hard to use and everything’s all over the place. Sorry Mommy.”

Spent the rest of the day rebuilding the information architecture, and rest of the night tweaking the UI.
Switched between desktop and phone when I took naps in between builds. I bet that Annotate feature saves thousands from hair-pulling scenes.
